Strawberry time again!

It is spring in Korea and that means STRAWBERRIES! If you couldn't tell, we love strawberries!

If you have been following us long enough you may remember the Namsan Strawberry Festival we went to last year. Of course it is an annual thing, and, of course, Bee would not let us miss a second opportunity to go. It was all just the same as last year but we did a few things different this year.

First off, the night before we were not sure what time the MWR (Military Welfare and Recreation) bus that was provided for transportation was leaving from our base. Bee tried a few options to find out and did not have any luck til the morning of, but she swore if we did not make it to the bus we were taking the train down there; that is how much she was determined on going. We found out the details and were ready and waiting when we where we were told it would be- the same place we got on the bus last year. But the bus was nowhere to be seen and there was no one else there. We then discovered that the bus was not coming on base but was waiting at the gate. What! We ran over to the gate a little frustrated but made it on the bus.

Baby hedgehog at the petting zoo
At the festival we one of the first things we did was buy a kilo of strawberries to eat as we wandered around for the day. We hit up the usual sights- petting zoo, soap making, strawberry vendors, insect exhibit- and then wandered over to the cake-making booth. We saw the cake-making last year but passed on it because of time, but this year we made sure to get it in. It was a blast making and decorating our cake together. We did not make the cake but we did cut it, frost it, and place strawberries all over it! It was tasty. I am glad we got a picture of it when we did because the next booth we went to after making it we set in on a chair in its box and when we came back to it the box felt lopsided so I opened it up to discover that it was all smushed against one side. Some punk must have knocked it off the chair and then set it back up like nothing happened. Oh well. We ate it anyway.

We did not have much time before we had to be back on the bus headed home but we were surprised that we managed to wander through all the exhibits and get everything that we planned on done before leaving. We left with Bee's favorite strawberry jam, some new strawberry scented soap (which I almost forgot), two large flats of strawberries, and our half eaten cake.

We spent more time on a bus to and from than we did at the festival but was it worth it? Yes!

  1. That hedgehog is cute! I didn't know hedgehogs were cute.

Bee, your haircut is also really cute? What is going on the last picture? Is it a shrimp? It doesn't look like a strawberry...

    1. Bee is holding a gigantic bug larva. Not sure for what, but it was huge...and gross.
