Pet Rabbit Take 2

So, as most of you know we had a pet rabbit for a bit- all of four days. Even if it was just a short time and it acted really weird, we really enjoyed the fun it brought. We tried to bring back the fun by getting a kitten. Not to say we don't love Pagoda, as you can tell from Hunny's antics, but she isn't quite the same as a rabbit. I don't think either of us could say out loud that's what we really wanted in case Pagoda would hear us, but we knew that the other did.

WELL, one day at a store, we had just gotten kitten supplies and were on our way to the check out when Hunny stops and drops to the floor, turns and motions me to follow suit. Confused, I slowly assume the prone when he commences a slow crawl across the floor of the store. You can imagine my confusion. No, there wasn't a rabbit being hunted, but two little girls. A family from church was there and Hunny failed to sneak up on them. The wife got a kick out of Hunny's playing hide and not seek.

While talking with them, it was brought up about our secret desire for a rabbit. She excitedly informed us of another church family that was trying to get rid of theirs as they are leaving Korea soon. SCORE!! I immediately messaged said family. Sure enough, they were almost as excited to give as we were to get. Almost. The next day, you heard me, the next DAY, we went over and loaded up our new buddy. She is all black with a white patched nose and paws. She is about a year old and very people friendly. She grew up with 3 rumbustious boys. Her given name is Beatrice but they just called her bunny. I can't tell if we are going to change the name or not. Beatrice is just too funny. If I ever say her name it is with a low, mocking accent. My only concern with it is if she takes on Beatrice Lestrange's personality. :P

We didn't give much thought to the fact that we currently owned a cat. When we brought her home we were very curious to how they would react to one another. It helped that "Beatrice" is almost Pagoda's size. They were very cautious of each other. Each taking the other in, sizing each other up. I was very surprised that "Beatrice" didn't immediately run away, but also glad, else that would've given Pagoda a reason to chase. Pagoda sniffed the bunny a lot before softly batting at her. Still, "Beatrice" held her ground. Eventually she began banging her back feet on the ground creating a loud thump scaring Pagoda. She even batted back at her with her cute, tiny front paws. We watched this for quite a while hoping they would get over each other but it seemed to slowly be escalating so we put "Beatrice" in her cage in another room.

We bring them out together on the occasion hoping for better results but thus far it hasn't been very promising. We will see what the future holds.

  1. Lost Boy says "You had to wait a WHOLE DAY to get your bunny?" He is teasing you.

Isn't it lovely how sometimes the universe fulfills your secret desires? Good luck with the kitty/bunny acclimatization. Surely they just need time.

2Flowers can now say "bunny!" She can also say "kitty," though it sounds more like "keyey."

  2. She could be named after Beatrix(ce) Potter, the author of all the Peter Rabbit books. We watched a movie about her the other night, very sweet, highly recommend it.
