What is geocaching? According to Geocaching.com, "Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location." It's a modern-day treasure hunt; and who doesn't love looking for things other people have hid?
Lately Bee and I have gotten back into geocaching and any time we go somewhere we check to see if there is any hidden treasure close by. I was introduced to the game by my brother many years ago and I introduced Bee to the game on the second or third date we went on. It is an easy game to get addicted to and a great way to get out and discover different sights when in a new place. Often times people will hide caches near historical or popular venues or in neat places that most people may not know about. And when you find the cache you not only find the physical treasure but a new and exciting place to visit or fact you did not previously know.
We both love the thrill of the hunt but we had not gotten around to doing it here in Korea until a few weeks ago. The phone I have is one of the new smart phones with a built in GPS which has saved me many times while trying to navigate the streets of Korea. I downloaded an App that shows nearby caches so whenever Bee and I are out it is easy to see if there are any nearby treasures that we can hunt and find while we are in the area.
Wow! You guys are doing great! I think I've only found one or two geocaches. What app are you using to find nearby caches?
