Go Bananas!

So bananas have gotten to be super expensive here. Well, I wouldn't really know but they posted a sign next to them saying because of some reason the price went up. I have no idea what it was before but thanks for letting me know that I should avoid them. But Hunny really likes them. They are a nice treat, plus I LOVE to freeze them and make them into ice cream! So, we were looking at them and seeing how much they cost and I was comparing the commissary price to off post prices. When I went to weigh them I saw these massive boxes of bananas... for $3.99!!!!!! I mean a HUGE box for four dollars?!?!? Don't mind if I do! It took me all of 2 seconds to make that decision. $4 for 4? Or 75??? I kid you not, there had to have been ±75 bananas.

Hunny had the great idea of setting them out from freshest to brown. So I used the brown ones first to try and make banana chips. It mostly just made the house hot, The end result was chewy banana bites...pretty good though. Used 5. Hunny had two for breakfast plus took one or two to work. I invited a neighbor to partake and she took maybe 15-20. Then there was Cub Scout Day camp and I took 17 to share with everyone. Made some peanut butter banana spread. Pretty yummy. Two or three bananas. Hunny wanted to make the classical banana bread. That took about two and a half. We made them into mini muffins and shared them with neighbors. They were also a hit at a Promotional BBQ we went to that afternoon.

And then there were these AMAZING! Butterscotch Blondies I made for a neighbor that were so good not many actually made it over to his house. Took maybe 4-5? I tried finding the recipe to share but can't. I found this one that is close though. Mine was half whole wheat half white flour. Anyway, after all that we still had a bunch left. I broke down and froze the rest. So, this box went UBER far. I know one sweet friend has bought 2-3 boxes now. Another mashed them before putting them in labeled Ziplocks. I tell everyone about these amazing boxes. I keep going back and forth about buying another one.

Any other ideas for bananas? How do ya'll use a ton of bananas? Favorite recipe? Have you tried blending frozen bananas into ice cream? Try it!

  1. Wow! I wouldn't know what to do with all those bananas. I'd probably freeze them all, or forget about them until I had to throw them all away. :( How long do you think the frozen bananas will last you? If you think you'll run out before banana prices go down again I would buy and freeze another box.
