NANTA!

So, Hunny and I have been meaning to become more cultured. We have thought for a while now to go see a show called Nanta but have never gotten around to doing so until this week. Nanta is a non-verbal production in which four 'chefs' use kitchen supplies and other oddities to make rhythms and beats. We have always said we were going to go but never put it on the calendar or made any attempt to schedule it. Well, for Christmas I gave Hunny a calendar in which I wrote many different activities we would do when I came out here to Korea with him. I wrote things like visit a library, bake cookies together, read outside, go on a picnic, have a candle-lit dinner... in different blocks on the calendar throughout the year. It was a fun idea and on this occasion was the catalyst to our going to see the show. I had written "go to a concert" on the calendar for Friday. Hunny saw that and sense he had the day off on Tuesday suggested that we just move it forward a few days.

We signed up with the USO which included dinner and a walk around a HUGE shopping market before the show. We met up and with as many people as were waiting around, I was surprised that there were only four of us going to Nanta. We got to the place for dinner. Hunny and I ordered the Bulgogi soup and Bibimbap so that we could taste each others. We have always had bulgogi as just the meat but the soup was quite tasty as well.

The weird thing was that when we got into the restaurant, we were all sitting together- Hunny and I and these two ladies. It was pretty awkward for a long while till one of them mentioned she was from Utah. Though I thought I was well composed, Hunny said it was written all over my face that I was dying to ask if they were Mormon. When she asked where we were married and we told her the Orlando Temple, the cat was out of the bag. We were all LDS! All of a sudden, we were talking it up and everything was so much easier. There was so much common ground. They thought it a little strange too when we just ordered water with our meal. because who orders just water to drink! We had a good time with them. After dinner, we got to walk around Myeongdong. It is a massive market, mostly for clothes. I think it is the only place you can find a Forever 21, Gap, and even an H&M in Korea. Seeing as Hunny was out numbered, we went into all sorts of clothing stores. He is a good sport though, he is actually a really nice shopping buddy. I am looking forward to going back when we have more time to hit up the huge sale that was going on.

We worked our way over to the theater. We got our tickets and found our seats. Surprisingly, the room wasn't that big. We were decently close. The plot was that the owner of the restaurant's nephew would be working and to make matters more difficult for the crew, there was a wedding and they had to have all these dishes complete before six. There was romance, a bit of magic, awesome beats. They were very interactive with the audience as well, whether they were pulling people out of the crowd, or getting us to make noise, we were having a great time.

It was a really good show. Hunny and I were both very pleased with it. We might even go and see it again sometime. But we have to go see a few other shows we have seen advertised before we go back to the same one. Hunny looked around on youtube for a video to let you see kind of what Nanta is about and this is the best one we could find for you, it is not in the theatre but it is a little bit of their act. Enjoy! We certainly did.
