Was there ever a man who truly loved a woman, or a woman who truly loved a man, who did not pray that their relationship might continue beyond the grave? Can anyone believing in eternal life doubt that the God of heaven would grant his sons and daughters that most precious attribute of life, the love that finds its most meaningful expression in family relationships? No, reason demands that the family relationship shall continue after death. The human heart longs for it. The God of heaven has revealed a way whereby it may be secured. The sacred ordinances of the house of the Lord provide for it.Read the entire article- "Why These Temples?"
Matthew 22:23-33
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteAll you chose to write was a scripture reference which I am left to interpret how I will. You question my faith, something I hold very close so please forgive me if I get a little personal. I thank you for the opportunity to share my faith on the matter.
I understand what Christ said in the verses mentioned, but this is not the only thing Christ ever said on the matter. In Mark 10:9, speaking of marriage, Christ says that it is of God, “what God hath joined together let no man put asunder.” The key to making sense of these two scriptures is the authority by which the marriage is enacted- what God hath joined together.
Before his death and glorious resurrection Christ bestowed his power and authority on his apostle Peter. “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Matt 16:19 see also Matt 10:1-4)
Today that same authority and binding power exists through a restoration of Christ’s church and is offered in Holy temples. There was a period of apostasy but through the infinite love of God for His children he has called again a prophet in our day to testify of Him, to exercise authority in His behalf as did Peter and ancient prophets, and to help us know the doctrine.
These latter day apostles attest, “if a man marry him a wife in the world, and he marry her not by me nor by my word, and he covenant with her so long as he is in the world and she with him, their covenant and marriage are not of force when they are dead, and when they are out of the world; therefore,.. when they are out of the world they neither marry nor are given in marriage; but are appointed angels in heaven, which angels are ministering servants, to minister for those who are worthy of a far more, and an exceeding, and an eternal weight of glory. (Doctrine and Covenants 132:15-16)
Eccl 3:14 affirms that, “whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it.” To be married in the temple of God is to be married by the authority of God given again to Gods children today. Marriage can be as eternal as the soul!
